United Farm Workers

The United Farm Workers (UFW) is a labor union in the United States that advocates for the rights and welfare of farm workers. Founded in 1962 by Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and others, the UFW emerged from the merging of the National Farm Workers Association and the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee. The organization played a pivotal role in the labor movement, focusing on improving working conditions, wages, and benefits for agricultural laborers, many of whom are immigrants. The UFW is known for its grassroots organizing, nonviolent protests, and the use of boycotts to achieve its goals, notably the grape boycott in the late 1960s and early 1970s, which garnered national attention and support for farm workers' rights.
