The National Federation of the Blind of West Virginia (NFBWV) is the state's oldest and largest organization dedicated to creating opportunities for blind individuals. As a state affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind, which has a membership of 50,000, NFBWV operates local chapters in Clarksburg, Huntington, Martinsburg, and Wheeling, as well as a statewide chapter for members at-large. The organization aims to change perceptions of blindness and empower blind individuals to live the lives they desire. One of its initiatives is the Allen-Sprinkle Memorial Gift, a scholarship awarded annually to a deserving blind individual pursuing post-secondary education.
